The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball team travelled to Karns to finish their regular season on Wednesday night. The Lady Beavers put up a fight, but the Lady Wildcats were still able to sweep them in three straight sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-22). “While we didn’t play as well as we could, we played well enough to complete the season sweep of Karns and finish our district season undefeated, which is always our goal,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach David Kolodney. “Now we turn to the second part of the season when everything we’ve done up until this point gets erased.” Oak Ridge will need to wait until Thursday to see who they face in the District semi-final round. Oak Ridge secured a #1 seed in the district tournament with their undefeated district record, and will face the winner of the #4 vs #5 seed match. “We know everyone will be coming for us so it’s time to rise to the challenge and make a statement,” Kolodney continued. “We’ll head back to the practice court and work on those things we need to fix and be ready for the start of the playoffs next week.” Tonight, Oak Ridge was led by Junior Brenna Allred who was named player of the match by Kolodney. “It’s always good to get points without having to get into rallies and Brenna was able to do that throughout this match,” Kolodney said of his Middle Blocker. “She served strong (36% Ace), hit strong (44% kills) and blocked strong (2 blocks). She’s steadily improved throughout the season and is a big reason why we’ve been able to have the success we’ve had so far and will be a big reason for that success to continue.” District tournament starts Thursday and is hosted by Bearden. The top two finishers go on to face the top 2 District 3-AAA finishers in Region play the following Tuesday. From there the top 2 finishers move on to Sectionals. “It’s been a while since our first practice back in July, but we’ve never lost sight of our goal of making it to the State tournament,” Kolodney finished. “We accomplished step one, but that’s just the beginning.”
Oak Ridge finishes the regular season with a 31-4 record and 12-0 record in District play.
